Safer Places, Inc. Launches Transportation Division

Middleboro, MA, January 7, 2022 — Safer Places Inc., a firm providing pre-employment screening, tenant screening and security consulting, today announced the launch of a transportation division. With this division, Safer Places will provide additional resources for public and private sector companies in the recruitment and hiring of drivers.

“With the current supply chain issues, finding qualified drivers is paramount for many organizations. As much as companies want to hire drivers, a bad hire has an even bigger impact on an organization,” said David Sawyer, president of Safer Places, Inc. “With this special division, we can customize a background check—including drug testing and social media screening/monitoring—that provides companies the needed data to make an informed hire.”

The new transportation division is also better able to assist companies with government contracts. The federal government now requires that opioids be included in US Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated drug tests. In recognition of this requirement and the expanded drug use during Covid-19, Safer Places, Inc. has expanded customized drug testing services. Previous tests (DOT. or other) already included heroin, but didn’t include semi-synthetic opioids such as hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone and oxymorphone, more commonly known as Vicodin, OxyContin, Lortab, Norco, Percocet and Dilaudid—those are now included.

“Driving a truck is both physically demanding and mentally taxing. Many drivers work long hours and are away from their families for extended time,” commented Sawyer. “Better drug testing can avert disaster and also help an individual get the help they need before trauma occurs.”

Safer Places also offers a host of other background check services. Those services include social media screening and monitoring services in deference to the greater concern in the business community regarding the social media posting practices of job applicants and current employees.

According to a survey by CareerBuilder, 70 percent of all employers use social media to screen their candidates. Additionally, of those employers, more than 50 percent said they found something that made the employer not hire the candidate (other studies on this topic put this percentage closer to 69 percent).

“Most employers review job candidates’ online profiles and postings to make sure there is no hate speech, bullying or any other type of objectionable behavior. This approach can create a slew of legal issues and put your company at risk of violating EEOC protected class information as well as FCRA rules,” said David Sawyer, president of Safer Places, Inc. “That’s why more and more employers outsource social media screening to companies like Safer Places, Inc. With our enhanced social media screening and monitoring services, we screen candidates and employees and provide a report that redacts extraneous information such as religious affiliation, sexual orientation, military status, and other information that should not and cannot be considered when making a hiring decision. By shielding an employer from information they would see if they did this on their own, they are less likely to encounter a lawsuit for discriminatory practices against a protected class.”

BTI Completes Harbour BioMed Lab Relocation

Newton, MA, Natick, MA and Hanover, MA, November 5, 2021 -/ExPressRelease UK/- Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI), a Mayflower Van Lines agent specializing in commercial, laboratory and residential moves, recently completed a lab relocation for Harbour Biomed. The Metrowest-based company moved its lab from LabShares in Newton, Massachusetts to ABI Labs at 27 Strathmore Road in Natick, Massachusetts. The move took place at the end of June 2021.

Harbour BioMed is a global, clinical stage biopharmaceutical company committed to the discovery, development and commercialization of novel antibody therapeutics in the areas of oncology and immunological diseases to address unmet patient’s needs. In addition to the office items, the move required the transportation of specimens from the freezers at LabShares to the new location at ABI Labs.

“Harbour BioMed owned a few of their refrigeration units, some of the other units were leases and wouldn’t be making the move,” said Margaret Lwanga O’Shea, BTI project manager for the Harbour BioMed relocation. “The contents and specimens from the leased units required our plug-in service.”

Along with the plug-in generator truck, BTI utilized portable dry ice shippers/coolers systems packed with dry ice to safely move Harbour BioMed’s specimens. Among those specimens included the lab’s proprietary Harbour Mice® , which generate fully human monoclonal antibodies in the classical two heavy and two light chain (H2L2) format, as well as heavy chain only (HCAb) format.

“The distance between Newton, Massachusetts and Natick, Massachusetts is a little more than 11 miles. Yet when dealing with delicate specimens that represent a company’s work, there’s no such things as a short distance,” said George Rohlfing, president of BTI. “Thanks to a thorough survey of both locations and several months of planning, we were able to conduct the move smoothly and efficiently with no glitches.”

The entire lab relocation was conducted in just two days, June 28-29.

BTI offers a wide range of moving services for wide variety of laboratories. Specialties include: research; life science; food service; water testing; coating; butterfly lab; ocean research labs; planetary sciences; virology labs; hearing labs; shock compression lab; coatings/wet and dry labs; fermentation; labs; magnet labs; chemical labs; pharmaceutical labs; and petroleum R&D labs.

In addition to the planning and actual move, BTI lab relocation services include coordination with facilities and IT staff at both origin and destination to ensure a smooth transition for the lab to reopen ASAP at the new location. Additionally, BTI’s lab relocation division can offer storage options on both ends of a move should the facility need time to assimilate the new lab into the building.

BTI Completes Henkel Corporation Lab Relocation

Cambridge, MA, Madison Heights, MI, Seabrook, NH and Hanover, MA, Oct 22, 2021 -/ExPressRelease UK/- Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI), a Mayflower Van Lines agent specializing in commercial, laboratory and residential moves, recently completed two lab relocations for Cambridge, Massachusetts-based location of Henkel Adhesive Technologies. BTI moved part of the lab contents to a Henkel location in Madison Heights, Michigan and the remainder to another Henkel lab in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies is an international company based in Dusseldorf, Germany. The company makes the sealant found in most aluminum cans holding carbonated and non-carbonated beverages.

“We take it for granted when we open up a can of soda or some other drink that it will be fresh. We don’t realize what goes into keeping drinks fresh, particularly all the testing, and creating that refreshing sound when we crack open a beverage,” said George Rohlfing, president of BTI. “Part of what was so eye-opening on this move was the heavy machinery Henkel uses to make and test the sealant.”

The first move to Michigan involved the largest machine, which weighed in at 5,000 pounds. Transporting it from the second floor to the truck would require disassembly into smaller sections so it would be light enough to take the elevator. Once to the loading dock, it would need to be re-assembled and then hoisted onto a pallet and packed onto the 53-foot, 18-wheeler making the drive to Michigan.

The second phase of the relocation took place July 22-23. Utilizing three 26-foot trucks, BTI moved the rest of Henkel’s research and development lab to the Henkel warehouse and lab, a location in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

One of the bigger challenges of this lab relocation was moving another large piece of equipment, which Henkel calls #2, which weighed in at 2,000 pounds. This delivery was made at ground level and needed to go over a concrete entryway pad. This move also required the piece of equipment to be hoisted and put on a pallet, similar to the 5,000-pound piece of equipment.

The other challenge to this move was space. The new research and development lab was 2,000 square feet. The items moved were taken from an 8,000 square-foot lab. Fitting 8,000 square feet of stuff into a 2,000 square-foot space was a challenge, one that BTI met.

“As a lab manager, one thing that I really appreciated is that BTI planned and executed the packing and the loading portion of the move so that my team could work as long as it possibly could,” said John Stankiewicz, director product development for Henkel Adhesive Technologies.

“Any move that involves equipment of that size and weight is a challenge,” said Rohlfing. “We ‘were thankful to have a good team in place and the full cooperation of the staff at Henkel to make this move go smoothly.”

BTI Receives Certification from International Office Mover Institute (IOMI®)

Hanover, MA, June 8, 2021 -/ExPressRelease UK/- Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI), a Mayflower Van Lines agent specializing in commercial, lab, medical, science and residential moves, recently completed training to receive Certified Office Mover® credentials from the International Office Mover Institute (IOMI). BTI management and staff completed the training to receive certification in March 2021.

“If we have learned anything the past 15 months it’s that things are always changing in our industry. Taking earning the Certified Offer Mover® credential is part of our overall commitment to providing a superior experience for our commercial and office customers,” said George Rohlfing, owner of the family-owned and operated Brookline Transportation, Inc (BTI).

For nearly 30 years, IOMI® (International Office Moving Institute) has been the world’s premiere ‘university for office moving,’ providing independent training and certification to moving industry professionals. That training included: techniques for minimizing the risk of damage to walls, floors, doors and elevators during a move; best practice methods for installing extensive building protection; procedures for minimizing the risk of damage to furniture and computers during a move, featuring best-practice methods for wrapping every monitor, printer, CPU, server, and copier with two layers of anti-static bubble wrap (with the bubbles facing the bubbles) instead of pad-wrapping computers with filthy furniture pads.

Also covered as part of the training was learning an estimating formula that’s based upon man-hours instead of the unreliable method typically used on household moves that’s based on weight. The IOMI® proprietary estimating formula is uncannily accurate because it factors in not only volume but unique origin and destination logistics.

“BTI has a well-deserved reputation for planning and efficiency for our moves and being able to adjust to unforeseen occurrences. Some of that is due to experience. A lot is from constantly seeking opportunities like the IOMI certification to sharpen our skills and develop new ones,” said Rohlfing. “I’m proud of our team for successfully completing the work become a Certified Office Mover.”
